) - President of Ukraine’s interim government Olexander Turchynov admitted that security forces are ‘helpless’ to stop the civil unrest taking place in eastern Ukraine regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
Turchynov stated his main goal now was to prevent the unrest from spreading to other parts of Ukraine.
Over the past few weeks, Pro-Russian activists have taken control of government buildings and have taken international monitors hostage.
Turchynov stated that the government was on full combat alert on fears that Russian troops could invade from the east.
"I would like to say frankly that at the moment the security structures are unable to swiftly take the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions back under control," he said during a meeting with regional governors.
Turchynov admitted that security forces given the task of helping citizens were ‘helpless’ to do so.
