) - Pro-Russian separatists have built barricades around the state security government building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk on Wednesday. Separatists called on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s help after Ukraine’s central government warned of the use of force to restore order.
Ukraine issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the protesters to find a political solution or face “force”.
The government office in Luhansk is one of three buildings that have been seized this week in eastern Ukraine who are seeking independence from Kiev.
"Of course we must ask Russia to take us in because I don't see an alternative," said a man who claimed commandant of the building. "Putin help us!"
Ukraine has accused Russia of provoking Kiev into an armed conflict by interfering with its eastern territories which contain many ethnic Russians. Last month, tensions escalated after Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea region via referendum.
