) - Russian President Vladimir Putin formally signed a law making the Russia’s annexation of the Crimea peninsula official, despite new rounds of sanctions from the European Union and United States. Fireworks were shot off in Sevastopol to mark the signing of the law.
The EU’s latest rounds of sanctions targets 12 people involved in Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
Earlier, the EU and Ukraine signed signed an accord for closer relations.
Seperately from the EU-Ukraine accord, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe has agreed to send monitors to Ukraine after Russia dropped objections. The monitors will not be sent to Crimea.
