The clashes occur after 10 consecutives days of separatists demonstrations in Ukraine’s eastern cities which are largely pro-Russian.
On Thursday, diplomats from Ukraine, Russia and Western nations conducted an emergency meeting in Geneva.
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine’s interim government of driving their country into an abyss. "I hope that they are able to realize what a pit, what an abyss the current authorities are in and dragging the country into,” said Putin.
Last month, Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea region and seems poised to grab other eastern territories. Putin has stated that Russia had a right to intervene in neighboring countries for their own self-defense.
According to reports, tens of thousands of Russian troops have massed at Ukraine’s border.
