) - In a new report release by the World Health Organization, 80% of the world is now polio free. WHO is hailing the report has an ‘historic milestone’ in the global fight to eradicate the disease.
The report documented that South East Asia is officially polio-free. The disease is still endemic in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.
Although the huge significance of the milestone, WHO admits there are still major challenge of reaching their 2018 goal of global eradication of the disease including recent outbreaks in Syria.
