) - The United States and European Union are considering deeper sanctions against Moscow if Russian troops move further into Ukraine.
US President Barack Obama said "energy is obviously a central focus of our efforts", acknowledging it "will have some impact on the global economy".
Obama and other EU leaders met in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss next steps against
Speaking after the meeting, Obama stated Russia “will recognise that they cannot achieve security, prosperity and status... through brute force”.
Tensions are high between Russia and the West after the Crimea, a Ukrainian territory, was annexed by Russia earlier in the month. Tensions first rose during demonstrations against Viktor Yanukovych and his government.
